Before Red Bull became the global energy drink icon sold in slim cans around the world, there was Krating Daeng, the original Thai formula that started it all.

Launched in Thailand in 1976 by Chaleo Yoovidhya, Krating Daeng was created as an energy tonic for Thai workers, truck drivers, and labourers who needed something to help power through long days. Sold in small amber glass bottles, the drink quickly built a reputation around endurance and stamina, a reputation strengthened through Chaleo’s sponsorship of local Muay Thai events. The charging red bulls logo became a symbol of strength, energy, and determination long before it became one of the most recognizable logos in the beverage world.

Fast forward to 1984, when Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz discovered Krating Daeng during a business trip to Thailand.  Seeing the potential for a global audience, he partnered with Chaleo, adapted the formula for Western markets, added carbonation, and transformed it into the Red Bull brand millions of people know today. 

And while you may have tried countless Red Bull flavours, editions, and collaborations, the original Thai version is a completely different experience. Still served in its small glass bottle, it’s uncarbonated, sweeter, and more herbal than the Red Bulls found in most coolers, with the concentrated profile that inspired one of the biggest energy drink brands on the planet.
