Mountain Dew Purple Thunder first launched in 2022 as a Circle K exclusive and quickly developed one of the most dedicated sub-communities in the Mountain Dew fan world. While most Mountain Dew flavours go loud and citrus-forward, Purple Thunder takes a darker, smoother route with a surprisingly rich blackberry-plum flavour that stands out from pretty much everything else in the lineup. It tastes like actual berry-plum rather than berry candy, which can be rare for a soda. It’s a layered flavour profile that longtime Dew drinkers consistently rank in their top five, from the brand. 

It eventually expanded into Kroger stores in 2024, bringing it to a much bigger audience, but it’s still not something you’ll casually stumble across in most Canadian stores. Which explains why Dew collectors and exotic flavour hunters still get so hyped when they spot it in coolers, like ours.
