RC Cola might not get the same attention as Coke or Pepsi, but soda history nerds know the truth: RC has been quietly shaping the cola world for decades. It was the first major cola sold in a can (all the way back in 1954),  one of the first to embrace diet soda (in 1958), and the brand that helped popularize larger-format bottles long before the competition caught on (by selling bottles in the 1930s). 

Despite that legacy, RC Cola has remained a bit of an underdog, especially in Canada where Coke and Pepsi dominate virtually every shelf and cooler. And we think that’s a shame, because RC isn’t trying to be either of them. The flavour lands somewhere in its own lane, with a smoother, slightly sweeter profile than Coke and a different character than Pepsi’s brighter, sharper cola style. For longtime cola fans, it’s more than just a novelty. It’s a genuine third option with a loyal following and a history that deserves a lot more credit than it gets.
